Cover level summary
Rising veterinary costs can make a trip to the vet a costly one, the average vet bill is over £380 (based on claims received by petwise in 2014) and more serious treatment can be considerably more. Pet insurance can help to provide peace of mind should your pet become ill or injured.
Bronze, Silver and Gold – Maximum benefit cover
Your pet will be covered for each illness and injury is covered until the maximum benefit amount has been reached, so as long as the insurance policy remains in force, premiums are kept up to date and the insurer invites renewal. There is no time limit on reaching this amount. Once the policy limit has been spent, the injury or illness will be classed as a pre-existing condition and will no longer be covered.
Platinum – Lifetime cover
Your pet will be covered up to the policy limit for each year they need treatment, so long as your policy remains in force, your premiums paid up to date and the insurer invites renewal, there is no limit on how long you can claim for each illness or injury.
We cannot cover any illnesses which were showing symptoms before the policy began, or which start within the first 14 days of cover. Accidents won’t be covered for the first 72 hours of the policy.
Normal care like routine examinations, vaccinations or preventative treatments will also not be covered. Please see our policy wording for full details of our policies.
Yes, not only does it break your premium down into very affordable payments. The annual premium is simply divided equally over 12 months. When your policy is due for renewal you can relax in the knowledge that cover will continue unless you advise us otherwise.
Every pet is an individual, so when we provide you a quote we use your pet’s breed, sex and age as well as where your pet lives to determine your premium.
When it is time to renew, we will recalculate the cost of your premium and send you a quotation. As your pet gets older they will cost more to insure so you will see an increase in your premium each year.
Petwise make it a very simple process. Simply call us on 0333 003 2271 and we will take the details over the telephone. We send you a pre-printed claim form for your signature and if you prefer we will settle the bill directly with the vet. Please note not all vets will allow fees to be paid directly.
No, the claim form will need to be signed and dated after the treatment has taken place. If we receive a claim form that has been signed and dated before the treatment end date, it will be necessary for us to follow our process and return the claim form to you which will result in unnecessary delays. The reasoning behind this is that you are signing to confirm that the treatment claimed for is correct. Further, although we are happy to accept direct claims from your vet, the claim form still needs to be signed AFTER the treatment has ended.
You will have to pay an excess plus 10% of the remaining treatment cost of treatment.
A voluntary excess may also need to be paid by the policy holder.
Yes, you can change the cover level you have when your policy is due for renewal. If you wish to do so, please contact us when it is time to renew and we will assist you to make the necessary changes to your policy. Please note if you change your cover level this is treated as a new policy and that any existing claims will not be covered and will be declined for future payments.
Once you have purchased a policy, you have 14 days from the start date within which you can cancel. Upon receipt of your cancellation request we shall cancel your policy and provided no claims have been made you shall receive a refund of any premium you have paid. If you wish to cancel the policy at any other time, a pro-rata charge will be made as well as the administration charge detailed in the Petwise Terms of Business. If you have made a claim during the current year of insurance, your full premium and any applicable fees will be due (unless the claim is for the death of your pet when a pro-rata charge will be made) if you are paying by instalments the rest of the years premium becomes due. If you wish to cancel your policy please contact us by calling 0333 003 2271.
